Comments

The collaboration of the Medical School with the Department of Nursing and the participating faculty members was excellent, but in the last announcement the number of candidates was very small. After examination, it was found that this is due to the fact that the scientific needs for specialized nurses in the hemodynamic departments of the cardiology clinics were covered by the graduates, resulting in the graduates no longer being absorbed by the labor market.
Taking into account the new legislation that obliges all Programs to be re-examined, the department decided to proceed with the re-establishment of the Programs as an independent one entitled "Preventive and Clinical Cardiology" by expanding the specialties of participation but also with the new legislative framework concerning the Primary Care Unit.
As objectives of the P.M.S. are the following:
A) The provision of high-level postgraduate specialization in the scientific field of preventive and clinical cardiology and the promotion of research, especially in the field of preventive and clinical cardiology.
B) The utilization of graduates in the modern labor market and the maximization of their social contribution through the application of the knowledge they acquire in the professional and social environment.
C) The utilization of graduates by the state for the design of prevention strategies in the field of cardiovascular diseases.
Specifically, graduates of the program will be able to:
1. Be employed in positions in the private or public sector that require specialized knowledge of preventive cardiology
2. Plan and conduct research in the scientific fields of the program and prepare for doctoral level research
3. To assist the state in formulating policies for the prevention and clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The Program will award a Postgraduate Diploma in "Preventive and Clinical Cardiology".
The ultimate goal of the Program is to provide specialized scientists to the health services, contributing to the prevention and reduction of heart diseases and the treatment of modern Demopathology.
In conclusion, the Program as a self-funded institution will contribute to the creation of specialized staff, without state expenditure, and will cover the immediate and long-term needs of the new public health services created with the new legislative framework. There is an urgent need for training of Physicians, General Practitioners, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Midwives and community health workers serving in remote island areas in preventive and clinical cardiology. Graduates will have the opportunity to meet the needs of Primary Care, in education, basic and applied research, as well as in senior positions, Administrative positions that design preventive and clinical-laboratory cardiology programs.
