LLM in International and European Law

DESCRIPTION - ACCEPTED STUDENTS CATEGORIES: Our LL.M. in International and European Law, taught entirely in English, builds on the very successful LL.M. programme we have created in the Athens Law School in the past ten years. It is an intensive Master’s programme, which provides students with an in-depth understanding of International and European Union Law in both their theoretical and practical aspects.

The Programme covers a single academic year, in the course of which students must successfully complete two semesters of core, mandatory taught modules while conducting research, under the supervision of our Faculty, leading to an original item of written work in the form of a dissertation.

For the successful completion of the Programme students must obtain 75 ECTS. The taught part of the LL.M. Programme is divided into two semesters – winter and spring. In each semester, students are offered two core and many optional modules. They must attend two core (10 ECTS for the module and 5 ECTS for the obligatory seminar) and three optional modules in each semester (5 ECTS per module), chosen from a list of modules which cover the most important legal issues in their specialization.

The remaining credits (15 ECTS) are covered by the successful submission of the LL.M. dissertation, on a subject of the student’s choice, often related to one or more of the modules taught, supervised by an academic staff member. Students choose the subject of their thesis during the first or second semester of their studies, upon consultation with their academic supervisor. The dissertation must be written by each student individually and must be the result of their original scientific research. It is written in English. Students will present their research before a 3-member academic panel, who will grade the dissertation.

The LL.M. course starts on 1st October and lasts until the mid-June. The written or oral examinations take place in February and June, upon completion of each semester. Students may re-sit a failed examination in September following the end of the academic year. The Master thesis shall be submitted by 30 September of the year during which the spring semester takes place.
